Problems Getting Home

We’re having problems getting Mike back home. There are no ICU beds available at Richland right now, and since Mike is stable in another hospital, it is not a priority for them to get him there. Does anyone have any connections with a hospital in Columbia? We need an ICU bed available and a doctor willing to admit him in order to get him home. Right now the insurance company is balking at paying for the transportation back home, but the Patient Resource Manager has things lined up to where we can get the flight back, and I’ll just pay for it myself, so that’s a non-issue. The issue is getting an ICU room and a doctor willing to take him.

Diane,
A friend of mine suggested contacting the Ronald McDonald House and/or Sisters of Mercy in Charlotte (They may be able to help get you to Charlotte, which would be closer, or help you get to Providence here in Columbia). I am sorry I do not have any direct connections, just ideas. I will continue to search for a solution to get you home and continue praying.

Diane,

We've sent Dr. Cope an urgent fax with a copy of your blog message & included your cell number. Their receptionist did receive it and put it on his desk. She said she'd make sure he saw it (he's working a half day today). Hopefully, he'll be in contact with you soon and be able to help.
