Some People Will Do Anything to Get on T.V.

Just wanted to let you all know that WLTX-Channel 19 is going to do a story on Mike tonight at 6:00. They came to the hospital and interviewed me and talked with Ralph Schmidt, principal at Richland Northeast, as well. Do keep in mind that the camera adds ten pounds, so that’ll be my excuse for how I look. :-)

Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I served Mike breakfast in bed. Awfully sweet, don’t you think? I may just do the same for dinner as well. He can’t have everything to eat that he would like—it has to be soft and chewable. Chicken wings actually aren’t even out of the question as long as they’re taken off the bone and cut into small pieces. His liquids have to be thickened and probably will be for the next couple of months. My parents just brought the girls up here with their valentines. Mike said, “Savannah Grace, Daddy’s girl” aloud. That’s the chant he normally says to the girls. His ability to talk above a whisper comes and goes, but he has been doing better lately. I think the feeding tube being removed and eating regular meals will help with that. That, of course, is my professional medical opinion.

Mike had his third radiation treatment early this morning. He was put on some antibiotics yesterday as a preventative measure; the chemotherapy tends to weaken the immune system, so they want to make sure he doesn’t catch anything that may be floating around. He’s still on a high dose of steroids; they’re going to start weaning those down but are waiting until next week because the radiation can sometimes cause the swelling to recur. Hopefully, we won’t have to worry about that happening.

We're arriving too late! We want to be on tv. It may add 10 pounds to women, but it's 40 pounds to men. We just think we look good irregardless. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you all this weekend. We'll put the chicken wings in a blender. God continues to be great! The Gamecock Rock's(San Antonio)

WLTX did a great job; what a great tribute to Mike. Diane, you are such an inspiration to us all.
Thanks for the continued updates. I will be by to see Mike next week. With all the "stuff" going around, I don't want to bring any unwanted, not that there are any wanted, germs your way. Now, I sound like you. Your sense of humor, positiveness and upbeat personality are infectious and that's a good infection:)

I've been wearing my bracelet and hesitant to tell the students what its for in fear of sharing details you might have wanted to keep private but after last night's news program I thought it was ok to explain it to them. They want to send you prayers and wanted to know how much the Mike bracelets are because they'd like to have one to remind them to pray for y'all as well.

I really don't know how you maintain your composure and sense of humor through all of this but I admire the woman of God that He is shaping you to be. I don't know why this is happening but one thing is for sure and is becoming very apparent to many, many people, God's hand is all over Mike and your situation and He is in control and going to use it to His glory. I am so very proud of you and still praying every day for more miracles.

Hi Diane! It's Alecia (Ned and Beth Lyle's daughter). I have been asking about you and Mike everyday. I'm just now finding out about this blog. I just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of and praying for y'all everyday and asking everyone I know to pray as well (I'm going to add a link to your blog on my family blog and photography blog). You are a strong, strong woman Diane. I admire you for that and Mike for his will to fight! I look forward to hanging out with y'all again at mom and dad's when Mike gets better! hugs, Alecia

Dear Flash,
I have always looked up to you. I always been impressed by your professional dress and excellent teaching. I know that GOD is taking care of Mr. Starnes and you and the girls, too. We all miss you here at AHS; we hope to see you soon.

Diane,
From earlier post you seemed disappointed in the care Mike was receiving. Has this changed since Mike's been at Lexington Hospital and who is his Oncologist?

Hope Mike continues to get better.
